subnet /27 nghĩa là phần host có 32 IP, và một điều chú ý nữa là: nếu X là địa chỉ subnet thì X-1 là địa chỉ broadcast của subnet trước đó. Do đó bạn áp dụng quy tắc này lên trên là:
subnet mask /27 => chỉ xét byte thứ 4
lấy giá trị byte thứ 4 của từng câu hỏi chia cho 32 và giá trị byte thứ 4 cộng 1 chia cho 32, nếu chi hết 1 trong 2 trường hợp trên thì kết luận đây không phải valid IP (vì nó là địa chỉ subnet hoặc broadcast).
